Turkey Creek Sewer Separation:
Environmental Assessment

Sewer Overflow

This project involved separation of combined sewers and installation of measures to reduce stormwater runoff to minimize diversion of sewer overflows during storm events. The project was located within an old urban area with the potential for soil and groundwater contamination resulting from historical property use. Such contamination may pose hazards to workers and the public and may result in increased costs and delays during construction.

KEY ELEMENTS:

  • Regulatory database search and a review of Sanborn maps to identify sites of potential environmental concern.

  • Ranking of sites based on considerations such as proximity to proposed construction, type of site, length of use, etc.

  • Identification of fifty sites of moderate to high risk.

  • Preparation of GIS map presenting the site locations relative to proposed construction locations.
