Full Time and Part Time Staff Architect

Environmental Advisors and Engineers, Inc. (EAE) is seeking full-time and part-time Staff Architects. The full-time positions are limited to candidates residing or willing to relocate to the Kansas City, Missouri or Wichita, Kansas metro areas.

This position will accelerate your design knowledge and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) coordination capabilities through direct mentoring by a very experienced Licensed Architect skilled in both design and construction phase services.

EAE is a growing small, woman-owned consulting firm headquartered in the Kansas City metro area that has been in business for over 25 years. Our multidisciplinary team includes licensed architects, professional engineers, construction specialists, environmental scientists, and engineering data management and administrative support personnel.

The Staff Architect will work closely with the Architectural Department Manager and will support the Lead Architects, and Project Managers.  The Staff Architect will participate in evaluating, designing, and construction oversight of commercial and industrial architectural projects, including infrastructure buildings for KS and MO-based municipal water and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with architectural projects through assessment, planning, design, and construction phases.

  • Prepare complex drawings in Revit and AutoCAD for architectural and engineering projects based on sketches and layouts; assist in design development of construction drawings as part of the EAE design teams.

  • Troubleshoot Revit and AutoCAD software issues during design project implementation.

  • Research and document solutions to design challenges as requested by Project Managers and design staff.

  • Adhere to discipline, client, and company drafting standards and procedures.

  • Stay up to date on computer hardware and software to assist in maintaining and upgrading company systems.

  • Assist in project management tasks on architectural projects.

  • Participate in field investigations and construction observations (for staff in KC Metro and Wichita area).

  • Prepare feasibility studies and other reports relating to architectural projects.

  • Coordinate with sub-consultants and clients.

  • Attend project meetings.

  • Provide technical support to EAE’s Project Managers.

Required Qualifications

  • Residence in the Kansas City Metro or Wichita area or willing to relocate to these cities (full-time position).

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software.

  • Proficiency with Revit software; must be able to:

    • Generate construction documents (plans, sections, elevations, details, etc.).

    • Generate illustrations/renderings.

  • Advanced skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

  • Skills to operate basic office equipment (printers, scanners, computers, and telephone systems).

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Attention to detail and excellent field documentation skills.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to work effectively both on a team and individually.

  • Excellent skills in communications with contractor staff.

  • Excellent technical writing skills.

  • Ability to quickly learn and willingness to support a variety of other consulting engineering and construction monitoring tasks (full-time position).

  • Ability to climb ladders and work on building roofs (full-time position).

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance (full-time position).

 

Preferred

  • 2 or more years of Architectural design work experience

  • Professional Architectural License in Kansas and/or Missouri or the ability to obtain licensure in both states within one year of hire date.

  • Architectural project management experience.

  • Experience in Architectural projects for the City of Kansas City, MO. and/or the City of Wichita.

  • Experience in generating technical specifications.

  • Experience in construction administration tasks on Architectural construction projects.

  • LEED Building Design + Construction (LEED AP BD+C) Certification.

  • Experience in conducting Facility Condition Assessments and /or Roofing Assessments and Inspections.

 

Working Environment and Benefits

  • Flexible office hours with opportunities to gain experience on a variety of projects.

  • A variety of other project tasks may be available, depending on location, credentials and interest, such as field investigations, construction monitoring, data analysis and management, environmental project support, etc.

  • Employer-provided home office equipment and software licenses required for the work.

  • Limited overnight travel, almost all work is in the KC metro or Wichita area (some additional travel for candidates outside of KC Metro area for periodic training or corporate visits)

  • Rate of pay commensurate with related credentials and experience.

  • Pay for all approved hours worked; all overtime hours paid at the standard hourly rate for exempt full-time employees.

  • Part-time staff benefits include the following:

    • Accrued Paid Time Off (PTO).
