Environmental Geologist/Scientist
Environmental Advisors and Engineers, Inc. (EAE) is seeking a full time Geologist or Environmental Scientist with two to six years of experience for petroleum storage tank environmental insurance claims management support. The project area served by this position is Southwestern Missouri, primarily in or near Springfield, Missouri. This position offers an excellent flexible opportunity for an independent, self-motivated candidate who has a background in environmental consulting and is interested in a mix of office and fieldwork from their home office base.

The environmental staff member will work closely with environmental consultants, drilling contractors, and State of Missouri environmental regulatory personnel in support of the Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund (PSTIF) environmental oversight contract. The position involves review of consultant's Work Plans, Environmental Reports, cost estimates, and invoices. The field work consists of observation and documentation of environmental investigation activities conducted by consultants and drilling contractors.

Experience in environmental consulting, performing, and reviewing Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and in-depth knowledge of associated Underground Storage Tank (UST) regulations and guidance documents are required.

Required Qualifications

Home office within 30 miles of Springfield, Missouri

Geology or Environmental Science Degree

Initial 40-hour Hazwoper OSHA Health and Safety training and current on refresher

Minimum of 2 years of environmental consulting experience related to UST systems and investigations

Strong documentation/record keeping and report writing capabilities

Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment

​Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of UST systems, UST removals, regulatory compliance, and Missouri Risk Based Corrective Action regulations and procedures

Background in petroleum cleanup / insurance helpful

Workplace Environment, Travel Requirements, and Work Schedule

Mix of office and fieldwork tasks with some flexibility in office work scheduling.

Minimum of 170 hours per month and workload per week may be more or less than 40 hours based on project workload timing. Straight time overtime pay for hours over 40 per week.

Permanent home office to support family/life balance with travel expenses reimbursed; this has always been our staffing model and is not tied to COVID issues.

Must be able to work occasional extended work hours and/or one night overnight stays during field work periods.

Moderate local and regional travel with some emergency response requirements (approximately once a year).

Must have ability to adapt to consultant fieldwork schedules for oversight responsibilities.

Must have a home office area with sufficient space for office equipment and files; EAE will supply required office equipment, laptop, software, and supplies.

Project training team yearly meeting for two days in Lake of the Ozarks area in early to mid-November each year.
